Can $(x-5)$ be the remainder on division of a polynomial $p(x)$ by $(x+8)?$

SOLUTION —

No, We know that we cannot divide the polynomials which have same degree.

As we can see that degree of $(x-5)=$ degree of $(x+8)$.

So, They are not divisible.
