Atom : An atom may be defined as the smallest particle of an element which can take part in a chemical change.

Molecules are composed of atoms, which remains in free state.

The atom of any substance is made up of at much too small to be weighted in a chemical balance.

The atomic weight of an element is expressed as the ratio of the weight of an atom of the element to the weight of an atom of the reference element Hydrogen.
