Pariahs in village Bharathipura were not allowed to worship in the temples. They were untouchables. They were not entitled to touch the idol of god Saligram and other gods.

In such a situation it was quite necessary to destroy the myth of lord Manjunatha. It was not possible without mass awakening among the Pariahs.

It was necessary to realize that they had equal rights like others to touch and worship the images of gods.
