Functional Components of Computers :

The computer comprises of two; the hardware and software and the software (programs). The hardware is a physical aspect of the computer which is governed by programs (softwares).

Hardware —

Hardware is the physical aspect of computers. The hardware are the parts of computer itself including the Central Processing Unit (CPU), memory, keyboards, monitors, drives etc. And other extra parts called peripheral components or drives which include printers, modems, scanners etc.

Software —

The set or series of instructions called software. It is the combination of instructions and data, that forms the building blocks of applications such as Word Processor, Computer Game or Spreadsheet. The main purpose of software is to process the data into information.

Software is divided into two categories :

1. System Software
2. Application Software 

(1) Type of System Software :

• Operating System
• Translator
• DBMS 
• Utility software
• Data communication software 

(2) Type of Application Software :

• Medical Software 
• Education Software
• Business Software 
• Entertainment Software
