The following alternative communication channels are used during natural calamities.

• Amateur Or Ham Radio : Amateure radio is also called ham radio. In this system radio communication system is used for non-commercial activities. It is a general radio system which has certain rules and it broadcasts on fixed frequencies allotted by the International Telecommunication union and its transmission are regulated by the wireless organizing and Coordination wing (WPC wing) of the government of India. This system is very useful, because it does not use any ground infrastructure and the electrical requirements are met with batteries and generators. The Government of India has worked towards popularizing the amateur radio system by setting up amateur radio stations and providing training to interested operators.
• Satellite Communication System Space : There are several types of proposed satellites which are used for different purposes. Among these communication satellites and remote sensing satellites, the major satellite communication system are a reliable and important communication system for transmitting messages and warnings. There is widespread use of satellite phones in disaster management using the services of Geo-synchronous satellite in which satellites act as telephone exchanges. These phones provide reliable means for voice and data communication and are also portable.
