Social inequalities and communities based on division of labour exist in all society of the world. India is no exception to this. In India also the basis of profession is hereditary. The profession automatically passes from one generation to the next. The community system based on profession is called caste. When this system becomes permanent, it is called an extreme form of division of labour. It differs from other communities in the society in a certain sense. This type of hereditary occupation based community, which we call caste is accepted by custom. They are identified as a separate community and all the people of this community have the same or similar profession. Their sons and daughters get married in the same community and food and drink are also in the same community.
