The electric potential at a point is said to be 1 volt if 1 joule of work is done in bringing a positive charge of 1 coelom from infinity to that point.

$\therefore \quad 1 \text { volt }=\frac{1 \text { joule }}{1 \text { coulomb }}=1 \mathrm{~V}=\frac{1 \mathrm{~J}}{1 \mathrm{C}}$
