The caste system is deeply rooted in the Indian Society and the caste identity of individuals is stronger than their identity as citizens. Therefore, when citizens give more importance to caste identity at various stages of the political process elections voting, government formation, distribution of government benefits, important appointment etc. it is called casteism. Politics of Bihar is also affected by casteism like other states. There are three type of caste groups active in Bihar. Upper caste class, Backward caste and Schedule cast. The caste equation of each caste becomes the basis of success in elections and the functioning of the government. In the 2010 elections, the impact of casteism in Bihar Polities was completely rejected by the voter.
