Explain the expression "With the smell of roots".

Ans. "With the smell of roots" suggests the oldest person in the family of the poet which is his grandmother. As roots are the base of a tree or plant on which it stands up. Similarly the grandmother is a woman of substance in the family on whose experience the family stands on.
