Disinfectants are chemical substances which kill microorganisms but are harmful to human tissues.

e.g., chlorine acts as a disinfectant when added to swimming pool by killing germs.

Antiseptics are chemical substances which prevent the growth of microorganisms or even kill them but are not harmful to living tissues.

e.g., furacin and soframycin.
