Earthquake tremors occur in almost all parts of India. On the basis of difference in frequency and intensity. India is divided in to 5 seismic zones, which are as follows:
- Zone 1: In this region comes the southern plateau region of India, the risk of earthquake is negligible.
- Zone 2: It includes the coastal plains of peninsular India. There is a possibility of earthquake here but there is limited danger due to less breakage.
- Zone 3: It mainly consist of Ganges-Indus plain, Rajasthan. Some area of north Gujarat come. Here the effects of earthquakes are seen but they are sometimes destructive.
- Zone 4: There is high risk of danger. In this mainly the region of Shivalik Himalayas of India, the northern part of West Bengal, the Assam valley and the region of Northeast India comes. Analaman and Nichobar Islands also comes in this region.
- Zone 5: This is the most danger are under this, Kutchh of Gujarat, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Kumaon mountious region of Uttarakhand, Sikkim and hilly areas of Darjeeling come.
