State the number of protons, neutrons and electrons in (i) ${ }^{12} C$ and (ii) ${ }^{14} C$.

SOLUTION : We know that atomic number of $C=6$

(i) Given, mass number $=12 \quad \therefore$ No. of protons 6 , No. of electrons $= 6$ and no. of neutrons $=$ mass no. $-$ at. no. $12-6=6$

(ii) Given, mass number $=14 \therefore$ No. of protons 6 , No. of electrons $=6$ and no. of neutrons $=14-6=8$.
