Bihar was also not untouched by the national discontent spread in the 1970s. In march 1974 the student movement took birth in Bihar. The issue was unemployment, corruption and shortage of food grains and unexpected increase in the prices of commodities in the state. The students urged Jayprakash Narayan to lead the movement. Accepting the condition of Japrakash's non-violence movement the students handed over the command of this movement to JP (Jaiprakash Narayan, Jai Prakash Ji), as soon as he took over the leadership of the movement, urged people from all walks of life to join this movement. People from all walks of life also participated. He called for total revolution in order to establish a true democracy in India. In order to overthrow the Congress government in Bihar, he called for changes in the entire social aspects, economic and political field. Pressure was put on the government to resign. In this sequence, seizes, strikes, struggles were started. The government did not succumb to these pressures, did not resign. At the time when the movement was going on in Bihar, the railway employees also announced a nation wide strike. This strike was organized in Delhi in which lakhs of people of the country gathered. Gradually this movement spread to the other states also thus it became a national movement.
