After the bifurcation of North Bihar, the condition of forests in Bihar has become pathetic.

At present, most of the land is cultivable. Only 764.14 hectares of forest area is left in Bihar, which is about 6.87 per cent of the geographical area of Bihar.

Here the average per capita forest land is only 0.05 hectares, which is much less than the national average of 0.53 hectares out of 38 districts of Bihar, the forest area has been depleted in 17 districts.

The forest conditions of West Champaran, Munger, Banka, Jamui, Nawada, Nalanda, Gaya, Rohtas, Kaimur and Aurangabad district are somewhat better, having a total area of 3700 square kilometres.

The rest consists of degraded forest areas, where only clumps have survived in the name of forest.

In Siwan, Saran, Bhojpur, Buxar, Patna, Gopalganj, Vaishali, Muzaffarpur, Motihari, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Samastipur, Begusarai, Madhepura, Khagaria, forests are founded less than one percent of the land.
