SOLUTION —

Let, the number of students appeared $=100$

Number of students who failed in English only $=52-17=35$

Number of students who failed in Maths only $=42-17=25$

Number of students who failed in at least one of the subject

$=35+25+17=77$

$\therefore$ Number of students who passed in both the subjects $=100-77=23 \%$

So, The correct option of this question will be (B).

Trick : \% passed = $100-\%$ failed Failed in both subjects $=52+42-17=77 \%$
$\text { passed }=100-77$
$=23 \% \text {; Ans. }$
