Write briefly the reasons for the low productivity of Indian Agriculture.

The following are reasons for the lower productivity of Indian agriculture —

• Increasing Pressure of Population : There is more dependence on Indian agriculture. The proportion of people who depend on agriculture 15.70%. Hence the produce gets consumed in the food of the people.
• Small Holding : The average size of holdings in India is very small. The size of agricultural land in many parts of the country is so small that modern technology is impossible.
• Problem of Investment : Due to lack of funds, seeds market, transport etc. the development of Indian agriculture has been hindered.
• Over Dependence on Nature : For the development of means of irrigation despite this the farmers of most parts of the country are still dependent on monsoon and natural fertility. This yields less.
• Uncertainty of Rainfall : Indian farmers are dependent on monsoon. There is always the uncertainty of monsoon in India.
• Decreasing Agricultural Land : Due to industrialization and urbanization agricultural land in India is decreasing.
• Limited Use of Modern Agricultural Techniques : Modern agricultural techniques i.e. HYV seeds, pesticides, chemical fertilizers and make limited use of modern equipment.
