Give an account of the information and technology industry in India.

The industry is also called knowledge based industry. Because it requires specialized knowledge, high technology and continuous research for production.

This industry is mainly related to Information Technology. It has revolutionized the economic structure of the country and the lifestyle of the people.

Under this industry there are transistors, television, telephone, pager, radar, cellular telecom, biotechnology, space equipment, Computer and process material (software) etc.

Its major production centers are Bangalore, Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Pune, Chennai, Kolkata, Kanpur and Lucknow. 

In addition there are 20 software technology parks which provide employment.

In this, about 30% of the employed persons are women. For the last two or three years this industry has become an important source of foreign exchange earnings.
