My school has a beautiful hostel. It is housed in a separate building. The building of the hostel is a magnificent one in a healthy compound. Students coming from distant places live in the hostel. I have been living from the beginning of the present session. The hostel is housed in a big building. There are 30 rooms and three big halls. It is a three-storeyed building. Mess, dining hall, sick room etc. are separate from the main building. There are two separate quarters-one for the superintendent and other for the Asst. superintendent. There is a big playground and a small garden. Living rooms are well-ventilated. There are one hundred boarders. The school hostel has a library with about one thousand books. Three newspapers are also provided in the library. A televisionset has been installed in the library. The boarders listen to the news and speeches of great leaders in leisure period.
There is a mess in the hostel. The mess is managed by a contractor. It supplies meals and breakfast to the boarders. The boarders have to pay mess charge to the contractor by the 7th of each month. Students living in the hostel have to follow a routine. They have to get up early in the morning. The study period begins from 7 A.M. and lasts at 9 A.M. All boarders have to study during the study period. Then they take their meals and go to school. In the evening the boarders play football, volley-ball, cricket, badminton etc. Some students go outside for a walk. They are required to return by 6:30.P.M. The study hours in the evening begins at 7 P.M. and ends at 9 P.M. They take their meals at 9:15.P.M and go to bed at 10 P.M.
Hostel life has many advantages. It helps in forming healthy habits. It provides necessary facilities for study. It teaches us to work, play, study and eat at fixed times. It enables the boarders to live a routined life.
There are certain defects too. The boarders miss the homely atmosphere. They do not get good meals and meals of liking.
Inspite of some defects, the hostel life is a pleasant one. It supports love for community life. It is a peaceful place for study. The superintendent loves the boarders like his own children.
