Essay on The Holi
Holi is a festival of colours. It is a seasonal and the happiest festival of the Hindus. It is celebrated all over India. It is celebrated in the month of March, on the first day of Chaitra.
There is a story behind it. Once upon a time there was a cruel king name Hiranyakashipu. He had no faith in God. He had forbidden his subjects to worship God. His son Prahlad was a devotee to God. The wicked king ordered his sister Holika to burn Prahlad. Holika has a blessing of God that she could not be burnt up. But the strange are the ways of God. Holika took Prahlad into the burning fire. By God's grace Prahlad came out of the fire unburnt. This incident is observed at night before Holi by burning heaps of wood.
The next day is full of fun and colours. Holi is a harvest festival. Boys and girls play with colours. People move in the streets in groups singing and dancing. They beat drums and sing songs. Merry making reaches its height. The carry gulal in their hands and visit their friends and apply gulal on their faces. In the evening people embrace one another.
Holi is a very enjoyable festival. It makes us forget our cares. People express their joy in different ways.
Some People throw mud and dirty water on this occasion. This is not proper. Some people get drunk. Many people sing indecent songs. They abuse women. Unsocial elements make the occasion dirty.
Holi is a festival which teaches us to love each other. It should be celebrated properly. We must follow manner of civilized citizens and respect others. It gives us a lesson of brotherhood.
