Maharashtra ranks first in the country in terms of length of the paved roads There are 2.70 lakh kilometres of paved roads here.

After this, the second and the third place of Uttar Pradesh, Orissa comes.

Here the length of these roads is 2.47 lakh and 2.36 lakh km respectively.

The state with the shortest length of paved roads is in Lakshadweep. There is only 1 km. of paved road here.

Kerala ranks first in terms of the density of roads. There is a road length of 389 km. per 100 square km. area.

Goa and Orissa are at the second and third position with 258 and 152 km of roads respectively.

The highest density in north India is in Punjab at 122 km per 100sq km. It is followed by Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.

Here the density is 103 and 102 km per 100 square km.

In north eastern states Tripura comes first and Nagaland second in this respect. Here, is respectively 134 km. and 127 km. long road per 100 square km.
