The first war was an important even in world history. This war directly or indirectly affected the whole world. In this sequence it also influenced the Indian national movement. At the end of the First World War, when Indians hoped for independence. the Rowlatt Act, which established more strict control over them, was passed in 1919 AD. The famous Jallianwala Bagh massacre took place on April 13, 1919 in order to protest against the Rowlatt Act. Contrary to the assurance given before the First World War, the conduct of the British compelled the Indians to launch a national movement.

The direct impact of the First World War came into form of Khilafat Movement. Turkey was defeated by Britain in this war, the political and spiritual leader (Caliphate) movement of the Islamic world. Indian Muslims grew outraged by the news of a strict treaty being imposed on him on the other hand, Lucknow pact gave unity to Muslims and Hindus, in this situation Gandhiji prepared for non Cooperation movement.

After the First World War, both inflation and unemployment increased in India. Due to the economic crisis in England during the war, their imports in India stopped. India industrialists benefited from this when the war ended, the situation changed again. Indian industrialists wanted the government to impose heavy duty on the imports of foreign goods. When the movement did not do so the Indian industrialists felt that it could be achieved by putting pressure on the national movement. The First World War removed the fear of the superiority of the Whites in the minds of Indians. During the war the propaganda by the European powers against each other and their barbaric and uncivilized behaviour in the colony was exposed. The above events and circumstances related to the First World War gave impetus to the Indian national movement.
