What were the main objectives of Chipko movement?

This movement, which started from two-three villages of North Uttarkhand, stated on the issue of cutting of 'Angu' trees. The state government rejected the permission of the villagers to cut the grape tree for development in the agricultural land. At the same time, the government gave the contract to cut the Angu trees to the sports goods company. This issue gave birth 'to the Chipko movement'.

This movement also included other issues related to economic exploitation in its objectives. The aim of the movement was that the local people showed have sole control over water, forest and land. Local landless forest workers raised the economic issue and demanded a guarantee of minimum wages. The woman raised their voice on the drinking of people who are becoming alcoholics due to the liquor given to the local residents by the outside contractors, as a result of the movement, deforestation for the next is years has been stopped by the government.
