The village court is a rural court. This court performs Judicial functions. The head of the executive of the Gram Panchayat is the head known as Mukhiya.

The head of the Judiciary is the Sarpanch. There is a village court in a Gram Panchayat. Its head is the Sarpanch. It is selected by direct election method. There is one Panch for every ward containing 500 population who is elected by election. The tenure of all these is of 5 years. The Gram Kachahri deals with both civil and criminal matters.

The Gram Kachahri can hear all types of cases upto a maximum value of $₹ 10,000$. The Bihar government has made provision for Justice friends and Justice Secretaries in the village court. Nyaya Mitras work to assist the Sarpanch because they are knowledgeable about the law.

The Justice Secretary takes care of the papers of the village court and keeps the papers.
