The number of democratic countries has increased to about 100 . Democracy is considered better than all other systems of governance. It provides equal opportunities to the citizens. Establishes freedom and dignity of the individual. It has been successful many times in establishing peace by reading mutual differences and conflicts. Decision in a democracy are taken not by individual prejudice but by collective consent in accordance with the wishes of the majority keeping in mind the needs of the minority. Constitutional provisions are made available. It is with these goals that Indian democracy has prospered relatively and has became a reference for other nations.
