Democracy has been greatly strengthed by the mass movements of women. Active participation of women took place in Chipko Andolan, Narmada Bachao Andolan and Anti Taari movement. Under the Chipko movement, woman used to stick themselves to the trees. They also vehemently opposed the efforts of the forest clerks to make men addicted to alcohol, their voices against the drunkards, their women made the vote of the movement ore. Women played a role in the anti-taddy movement. In this movement of Andhra Pradesh by raising women demanded a ban on of the sale of liquor or taari in the neighbourhood. In September October 1992, the women there were trying to improve their rural economy by launching a movement against alcohol. Proud literacy program among women made women more aware. Women from about 5000 villages of Andhra Pradesh accepted to be a part of this movement. The slogan 'stop selling taadi' had a huge impact and eventually banned the sale of taadi. The Narmada Bachao Andolan is related to the neglect and rehabilitation of the agricultural sector. Women participating in large numbers asked the government to consider the issue of rehabilitation and started an agitation against the government. During this, various voluntary organization also supported the women.
